We are people who loves Jesus Christ, coming from different backgrounds and countries. It is wonderful to celebrate our common faith and love for God. No matter who you are, you are most welcome.
We believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God, with the Father and the Holy Spirit. God sent Jesus in the form of a man to fulfill his plan to save us from death. He did the perfect sacrifice for saving the sinners by dying on a cross. He arose from the dead after three days, and HE IS ALIVE! He is the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the God Father except through Him." John 14: 6.
Our mission is to know more Him and to make Him Known.
Good News Church Cambridge began July 7, 1980 as an outreach into the Portuguese speaking community of Cambridge. The founding pastor, Rev. Isaac Amorin, started meeting on a regular basis with a few Portuguese families. At that time they met at First-Delta Baptist Church (now known as Avenue Road Baptist Church). By January of 1985 eighteen families were meeting together and through a time of prayer and vision planning they decided to find their own facilities and become more visible to the Portuguese speaking community. That year they went ahead with the purchase of a building on 54 Grand Avenue, Cambridge and started their very first service January 6, 1985. There the church enjoyed a period of rapid growth as new believers witnessed to their families and friends. Initially the worship services were in Portuguese as they ministered to the immigrant community but as families were coming to faith in Christ and more young people started to attend, it became obvious that a ministry in English was necessary. English Sunday School classes and Sunday evening services began in the spring of 1985. On Sunday, May 26, 1985 Gospel Baptist Church was formally recognized as a church by Canadian Baptists of Ontario and Quebec. It didn’t take long to outgrow the facilities on 54 Grand Ave. and on October 16, 1986 the congregation moved to its present location at 215 South Street. It was a miracle how they got the building and the funds – God truly opened the way. The excitement and joy of a personal encounter with God and the fellowship of these new believers led to a spontaneous form of worship that was characteristic of Gospel Baptist Church. In the later part of the 80’s the church held services in three languages, Portuguese, English and Spanish and occasionally they had trilingual communion services together. The freedom in the style of worship and a majority of young believers made this church unique. The church has gone through changes and various pastors from 1991 to 2010. Through those changes it still continues a bilingual ministry in English and Portuguese. Many of the new people attending have been drawn by the warmth and enthusiasm which is expressed in the fellowship of the church.
